Prophecy of Isaiah 40

John the Baptist came to prepare the way for the Lord.

Mar 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Mar 1:7-8 And preached, saying, There comes one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

This was the beginning of the fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah 40:

Isa 40:3 The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare the way of JHVH, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

John prepared the way for our Lord Jesus, the anointed one of God.  Now, the rest of this messianic prophecy of Isaiah has not been fulfilled yet, because it refers to Christ coming in his power to set up his kingdom.

Isa 40:4 Every valley shall be LIFTED UP, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and shall become the steep ground a LEVEL place. and the rough places a plain.

Isa 40:5 And the glory of the JHVH shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see [it] together, for the mouth of JHVH has spoken [it].

The first time that Christ came, Peter, James, and John saw a vision of Jesus in his glory, but it was only a vision, Jesus had not been glorified yet (Matthew 17:1-9).

The prophecy of Isaiah continues with:

Isa 40:6-8 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh [is] grass, and all the goodliness thereof [is] as the flower of the field: The grass withers, the flower fades: because the spirit of the LORD blows upon it: surely the people [is] grass. The grass withers, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall rise for ever.

This is in reference to the bowls of wrath which God will pour upon the earth before the millennium can start.

Isaiah continues with a passage which shows that at that time the Jews will realize that Jesus is the Messiah -- something that only a few of them accept today.

Isa 40:9 O Zion, that brings good tidings, get you up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that brings good tidings, lift up your voice with strength; lift [it] up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong [hand], and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward [is] with him, and his work before him.

Christ comes back to fight the Battle of Armageddon, and the reward that is with Him at that time is eternal life, only possible for those who repent and have the spirit of God.

Isa 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry [them] in his bosom, [and] shall gently lead those that are with young.

Isaiah 40 in the Book of Revelation

In  the Book of Revelation there is another prophecy in  where the Apostle John explains how it is possible for the words of Isaiah 40 to come to pass, specifically:

Isa 40:4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and shall become the steep ground a level place, and the rough places a plain.

The seventh bowl of wrath is poured in the air.

If you read our file Bowls of Wrath you will notice that the first 6 bowls are poured upon the earth, rivers, or oceans.  The 7th bowl is poured in the AIR.

What happens is that the whole planet is affected by something that comes from the air.  This happens at the return of Christ for the Battle of Armageddon as we read in the Book of Revelation.

Rev 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Rev 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the AIR; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

Rev 16:18 And there were sounds, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, [and] so great.

This earthquake levels off all the cities of the world.  This can only happen from a direct impact to planet earth from a celestial body.

Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

The great city refers to Jerusalem.  Remember that Christ promised that He would return to the Mount of Olives which is to the east of Jerusalem.

Babylon the Great comes in remembrance of the typical sinful city that God had destroyed as an example of what He was going to do to other cities if people did not repent.

Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

Revelation 16:20 sets the time when Isaiah 40:4 will come to pass.  As we can see, for every valley to be lifted up, and every mountain to be leveled off, it requires some great disaster and some plate tectonics to be put into motion that cause mountains.

Also this will cause gigantic tsunamis that will wash over continents and flatten the region and cause islands to disappear. Notice that this event is much worse than the earthquake that occurs at the time of the rapture. In that one "every mountain and island were moved out of their places"(Rev 6:14), but in this one the islands will literally disappear and so will the mountains. Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

Observe that it follows with a shower of meteors as big as 100 pounds each.

Rev 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, [every stone] about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

Prepare the way of the Lord, because He is coming soon.
