How does a person get close to God? This is an
important question that many people ask. What they are really saying is, ‘How can I experience God?” Mortals are always seeking a divine spark to
give their lives more purpose. What most people do not understand is that God is not as far away as they
think he is.
How can you get closer to God?
You must reach out to God in faith. Prayer is an act of faith. Going to church is an act of faith. Reading scripture is an act of faith. God responds when we take a step of faith.
God says:
Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
If you want be closer to God, act in faith and trust God with the results.
You must reach out to others with love. If you want to be closer to God, go to the poor, the suffering and the hurting. Jesus shared a parable, called The Sheep and the Goats, about what the
judgment would look like. The sheep were welcomed into the kingdom but he goats were not. Why?
Matthew 25:45
"He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
Love and minister to others and you will be closer to God than you have ever been.
God is present in your world.
He isn’t sitting on a couch in heaven waiting to hear a call from the other room that He is needed. God is proactive not reactive.
God saw our sinful condition and sent His son (Himself) to be close to us. That is why every Christmas we celebrate Christ’s birth, it is God coming close to us, to be with us, to live with us, to die for us and to celebrate resurrection with us.
In the book of James, our God makes it simple,
James 4:8
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
There is a quote that says, “If you are not as close to God as you want to be, who moved?”

Fellow
colleagues, we face a difficult period in our history now. Do look at the corona
virus. Already, thousands have died and we fear that there will be many more. I
do ask that you please pray to the all powerful one. He alone can save us.
Sadly, by fall many believe that this epidemic will have run its course.
Also, the window of opportunity will close and the chance to save sick patients
will be over. Therefore, we should ask our researchers to pick up their pace.
OK, so time is of the essence.
